Contemporary materials and equipment in modern building

Considering that nearly zero-energy, i.e. very low consumption of energy in nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB) should be provided mainly from renewable energy sources (RES) and generated in the building itself or in its immediate vicinity, the chosen technical solution for the system or synergy of several systems forgenerating electricity, heating and cooling, is of the utmost importance in order to obtain the best possible technological and economic optimum of return on investment. All materials and equipment should comply with the principles of cleaner production and the products should use recyclates as raw material. The Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) proved to be a suitable method for the comparison of such products and the products made exclusively from new natural resources. Material flow analysis(MFA) is considered to be the essential method of industrial ecology, and anthropogenic, urban, social, and industrial metabolism. It is used to study the materials, substances or flows of products in different sectors or within ecosystems. One of the optimal technical solutions for computing nearly zero-energy of buildings with own RES power generation systemsis to measure electricity on the same metering point through which the building buys electrical power from the supplier, but with the installed two-way utilitymeterand billing at annual level (the so-called net metering).
